چکیده

We develop the idea of an effective conformal theory describing the low-lying spectrum of the dilatation operator in a CFT. Such an effective theory is useful when the spectrum contains a hierarchy in the dimension of operators, and a small parameter whose role is similar to that of 1/N in a large N gauge theory. These criteria insure that there is a regime where the dilatation operator is modified perturbatively. Global AdS is the natural framework for perturbations of the dilatation operator respecting conformal invariance, much as Minkowski space naturally describes Lorentz invariant perturbations of the Hamiltonian. Assuming that the lowest-dimension single-trace operator is a scalar, O, we consider the anomalous dimensions, γ(n, l), of the double-trace operators of the form O(∂2)n(∂)lO. Purely from the CFT we find that perturbative unitarity places a bound on these dimensions of |γ(n, l)| < 4. Non-renormalizable AdS interactions lead to violations of the bound at large values of n. We also consider the case that these interactions are generated by integrating out a heavy scalar field in AdS. We show that the presence of the heavy field “unitarizes” the growth in the anomalous dimensions, and leads to a resonance-like behavior in γ(n, l) when n is close to the dimension of the CFT operator dual to the heavy field. Finally, we demonstrate that bulk flat-space S-matrix elements can be extracted from the large n behavior of the anomalous dimensions. This leads to a direct connection between the spectrum of anomalous dimensions in d-dimensional CFTs and flat-space S-matrix elements in d+ 1 dimensions. We comment on the emergence of flat-space locality from the CFT perspective. ar X iv :1 00 7. 24 12 v2 [ he pth ] 8 O ct 2 01 1

یادداشتی بر دوگانی AdS/CFT

We study duality of field theories in (d+1) dimensional flat Euclidean space and (d+1) dimensional Euclidean AdS space for both scalar the and vector fields. In the case of the scalar theory, the injective map between conformally coupled massless scalars in two spaces is reviewed. It is shown that for vector fields the injective map exists only in four dimensions. Since Euclidean AdS space is e...

Unitarity and the Holographic S-Matrix

The bulk S-Matrix can be given a non-perturbative definition in terms of the flat space limit of AdS/CFT. We show that the unitarity of the S-Matrix, ie the optical theorem, can be derived by studying the behavior of the OPE and the conformal block decomposition in the flat space limit. When applied to perturbation theory in AdS, this gives a holographic derivation of the cutting rules for Feyn...

Strings on AdS 2 and the High - Energy Limit of Noncritical M - Theory

Noncritical M-theory in 2 + 1 dimensions has been defined as a double-scaling limit of a nonrelativistic Fermi liquid on a flat two-dimensional plane. Here we study this noncritical M-theory in the limit of high energies, analogous to the α → ∞ limit of string theory. In the related case of two-dimensional Type 0A strings, it has been argued that the conformal α → ∞ limit leads to AdS2 with a p...

Lifting a Conformal Field Theory from D-dimensional Flat Space to (d+1)- Dimensional Ads Space

A quantum field theory on Anti-de-Sitter space can be constructed from a conformal field theory on its boundary Minkowski space by an inversion of the holographic mapping. To do this the conformal field theory must satisfy certain constraints. The structure of operator product expansions is carried over to AdS space. We show that this method yields a higher spin field theory HS(4) from the mini...

Holography in the Penrose limit of AdS space 1

We discuss the Penrose limit of pure AdS space, which is flat Minkowski space. Even though there is no holographic principle, we construct a " holographic screen " on which information on the corresponding CFT is encoded. The screen is obtained as a gauge-fixing condition upon restricting the Hilbert space to the states that are annihilated by the generator of scale transformations. This constr...
